COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
6th & 7th Grade
As part of the fine arts rotation, 6th & 7th graders will join the art room for a quick 9 week session. Our time together will be an introductory level course that builds the foundation of skill sets and knowledge in art. Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of the elements and principles of art in a variety of drawing, painting and occasional 3D media. Creativity, craftsmanship, and reflection are key components of student assignments. Historical and contemporary art work will be introduced and reviewed throughout the quarter, enriching student appreciation of global perspectives and artistic expressions within the media.
8th Grade
8th grade courses will draw upon on a broad scope of visual media and processes including drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage, as well as, an introduction to ceramics. Focusing on concept development, innovative problem solving and informed critique, students will stretch the boundaries of artistic expression through the exploration of the elements and principles of design learned in 6th grade in both the 2D and 3D form.
ART SQUAD (COMING SOON...)
Art Squad is an exciting opportunity offered each quarter and open to all LJHS students looking to expand their exposure to the visual arts throughout the school year. Members will have the opportunity to work with additional materials and projects not necessarily offered in general art classes. We will alternate between open studio time, organized projects and communal installations. Sign up for art squad is offered by quarter and requires a signed permission slip and $12/quarter to join.
